Tips and tricks for organising a successful press day

Written by Federica Ferron

A well planned press day remains one of the most effective ways to present a brand, launch a collection or introduce a product to journalists and media professionals.

In Milan especially, these events still occupy a central role within fashion, design and lifestyle communication.

Milan and the geography of media

Milan offers something unusually practical: concentration. National newspapers, television networks, digital magazines and communication agencies operate within the same urban ecosystem, making the city particularly suitable for media events.

Areas such as Duomo, San Babila and Porta Venezia continue to attract brands precisely because they simplify logistics for journalists moving between appointments during already crowded working days. Accessibility matters. Often more than organisers expect.

The city also provides an extensive range of venues suitable for press days, from contemporary showrooms to hotels with modular press rooms, galleries filled with natural light and adaptable exhibition spaces.

Choosing the right location

The venue shapes the perception of the event almost immediately. A cramped room with poor lighting can flatten even the most carefully designed presentation, whereas an intelligently curated space tends to strengthen the narrative surrounding the brand itself.

Many locations in Milan now offer highly customisable solutions including bespoke fittings, technical assistance, design furniture and dedicated catering services. This flexibility allows companies to create environments aligned with their visual identity rather than relying on anonymous corporate settings.

Natural light has become increasingly valuable. Journalists, photographers and creators often produce content directly on site, and visually effective spaces are far more likely to appear across digital publications and social platforms afterwards.

Managing journalists efficiently

Press days work best when organisation is tight, registration procedures should be quick, schedules precise and information immediately accessible.

Press kits have also changed considerably over the last decade. Printed folders still appear occasionally, though many brands now rely on digital materials distributed through QR codes or private download links containing press releases, product images and technical details.

Timing requires equal care. Late morning or early afternoon events generally adapt more naturally to editorial routines, particularly in cities where journalists attend multiple launches within the same day.

Building an experience people want to share

Contemporary press days are no longer limited to static product presentations. Increasingly, brands attempt to create immersive environments that encourage interaction, photography and spontaneous online visibility.

Temporary installations, carefully designed soundscapes and unconventional spaces often generate stronger engagement than traditional conference rooms. During events such as Milan Design Week or Fuorisalone, this approach becomes especially visible. Former industrial buildings, courtyards and galleries are transformed into temporary narrative spaces intended not simply to display products but to create experiences worth documenting.

These spaces go beyond mere exhibition, just as the objective is not limited to media coverage but forms part of a medium- and even long-term communication strategy. This is what defines a successful press day today.
