Fuorisalone 2026 results: record attendance, and a broader design ecosystem
Fuorisalone 2026 has wrapped up, and the figures leave little room for doubt. Held in Milan from 20 to 26 April, the event once again confirmed its status as the leading international gathering for design, attracting professionals, students, brands and visitors from around the globe despite a complicated geopolitical backdrop.
More than 500,000 people attended over 1,300 events spread across the city.

The numbers behind Fuorisalone 2026
The official Fuorisalone guide listed more than 1,100 events, while the wider city programme exceeded 1,300 appointments. Attendance surpassed more than 500,000 visitors, reinforcing Milan's role as a global hub for creativity, innovation and business.
One of the edition's most notable innovations was the Fuorisalone Passport. Tested across 63 events in the Brera Design District, it attracted 104,000 registered users. International participation was particularly strong, with 31% of users coming from 15 different countries.

A younger and more professional audience
The audience profile continues to evolve. Designers and students accounted for 17% of participants, joined by architects and communication professionals in significant numbers.
This shift reflects a broader transformation. Fuorisalone is no longer centred exclusively on furniture. Technology, fashion, automotive, food and art increasingly share the stage, creating a hybrid platform that mirrors contemporary lifestyle culture rather than a single design discipline.

Brera remains the focal point
Brera Design District maintained its position as the symbolic heart of the event. The district hosted 320 events distributed across 217 permanent showrooms alongside temporary venues and landmark locations.
Yet the narrative extended well beyond Brera. Tortona, Isola, Durini, 5VIE and Porta Venezia all contributed to a citywide experience, while independent destinations continued to gain relevance within the Milan Design Week landscape.

The theme "Being Project" reshaped the conversation
The 2026 theme, Essere Progetto ("Being Project"), influenced many of the most discussed installations. Rather than presenting finished products, numerous exhibitions focused on research, experimentation and transformation.
Immersive environments, responsive spaces and site specific storytelling highlighted elements that often remain hidden: process, method, adaptation and even error. Emerging technologies and artificial intelligence were not simply displayed as tools. Instead, they became part of the design process itself, helping redefine the relationship between people, technology and the environment.

Economic impact and Fuorisalone Award winners
The economic effect was equally significant. According to Confcommercio Milano Lodi Monza Brianza, Milan Design Week generated €255 million in economic value, representing a 14.7% increase compared with 2025.
The fifth edition of the Fuorisalone Award recognised six standout projects. The public selected Ooooh, that's EpiQ! by Škoda Auto. The special Essere Progetto mention went to Prototype Island by DesignSingapore Council. Other winners included RE:PROGRAMMING WOOD for Sustainability & Research, NikeAir_Lab by Nike x Dropcity for Technology & Innovation, Reference Library by Jil Sander and Apartamento Magazine for Engagement & Interaction, and When Apricots Blossom by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, which received the Media Partners Special Mention.
Milan strengthens its global design leadership
The 2026 edition demonstrated something larger than attendance figures. Fuorisalone continues to expand its reach, blending disciplines, attracting younger audiences and generating measurable economic value. Design remains at its core, certainly, but the event increasingly operates as a cultural platform where innovation, business, technology and lifestyle intersect. Milan, for another year, stood at the centre of that conversation.
